May Square
is the most important square of Buenos Aires. It represents Argentinian's
history from the origin of the country to the present. If you pay attention to
the surrounding buildings, you can read how it developed through time. It is
the square were president Peron gave his famous speeches, where the Mothers of
the Square of May gather to claim for their disappeared children, is the place
where people express their anger, to politicians, or happiness, like winning
the world cup. Is the meeting point for any Argentinian to start a
demonstration. Is in the "center" of the city and for Argentinians is
like a shrine.
You will
find a monument of Belgrano, who created Argentinian flag and, in the base of
it, several rocks with names of the people which died with Covid in 2020.
There is the
Greek style National Bank, the Economy Ministry in which you can still see the
marks of the bullets of a military coup that took over the government in 1955, the
colonial style Town hall that still resist the passing of time.
Several
museums, the Metropolitan Cathedral, cupulas of antique buildings, roof tops,
offices, and much more in the neighbourhood of San Nicolas and Monserrat.
